The faculty of the department have expertise in the areas of Functional Analysis, Harmonic Analysis, Mathematical Programming, Algebra, Operation Research, Statistics, Topology, Invariant Subspaces, Fluid Queues, Computational Intelligence, Optimization, Fuzzy Theory, Chaos Synchronization and Nonlinear Dynamical Systems.
The flagship program of the department is the B.Sc. (Hons) program in Mathematics. The program offers a holistic learning experience to the students and trains them to be confident mathematicians. Students receive ‘hands-on’ training in Software such as MATLAB, Mathematica, R, HTML and LaTeX. The course prepares the students well for illustrious careers in Academia, Research, Actuarial Sciences, Data Analysis, Operations Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Investment Sciences, Banking, etc.
The department maintains a dynamic academic atmosphere through various academic activities and interactive sessions with experts from esteemed institutes such as TIFR, CMI, IIT, University of Delhi and ISI. Many of our students pursue their further studies in prestigious institutes like IIT, ISI, London School of Economics, University of Delhi, and Chennai Mathematical Institute.
The Department organizes intercollege paper presentation competitions related to “Application of Mathematics across diverse fields”. Under the Alumnae series, the department students get the opportunity to connect with their Alumni and learn about the recent trends in career opportunities. These webinars are chaired by our esteemed Alumni and eminent speakers. The students of the department conduct various activities like quizzes, regular seminars, and other academic activities. The student council body also holds various cultural events involving students and faculty
MATHARENA, the annual fest of the department has a series of events like Expert Lecture, Committee Simulation cum Debate competition, Mathematics quiz “Get Set Solve” and Movie Screening and several games. The fest witnesses very high student participation from all colleges of Delhi University.
Every year students actively make their contribution to the biannual newsletter, Algorithm of the Department of Mathematics. They passionately work to take their readers on an invigorating journey of the academic year.
